Care & Kindness
Be gentle with yourself
You are deserving of care and kindness
Our inner dialogue matters. The way we view ourselves and treat ourselves matters. It shapes the way we interact with the world around us and the way we experience our lives.
Approaching life with self-critical thinking can diminish the way we credit our ability to make decisions and overcome challenges. It can fog our perception of ourselves causing us to feel tired, fearful, and subject to misguided beliefs about our abilities.
When we shift the way we care for ourselves, we begin to see ourselves the way our loved ones do - as capable, as enough. We become better equipped to overcome challenges we face because we are able to acknowledge the strengths we possess. We are able to validate ourselves by witnessing and reflecting on our own accomplishments rather than relying on others to do this for us. We become our own advocate, our own supporter, and we see ourselves as worthy of enjoying life.
What would your experience feel like if the words you spoke to yourself were loving.
Below are exercises you can try to help you shift your inner dialogue.
Remember: You deserve to be treated with care and kindness. Begin with you.
Journal:
Think of a recurring self-critical thought. Release any immediate instinct to judge the thought.
Imagine you are listening to a dear friend talk to you about this as if it is an experience of their own. Write a letter to this person acknowledging the situation. Provide them with loving words, encouragement, and gentle kindness.
Read the letter back to yourself and breathe in all of the loving energy you put into it.
Pause:
Close your eyes and breathe in deeply. As you exhale whisper “I am enough”.
