Purposeful Self-care

Do you ever feel like you neglect to care for yourself despite your greatest of intentions?

Do you give yourself permission to go beyond fulfilling the daily care norms to give your body and mind the things that it may need on a deeper level?

If this is something you struggle with, you are not alone. Over the years I have also struggled to create space for these things in my life. As I began to incorporate them into my daily routine, I noticed an incredible difference with the way I faced the world around me.

Each day there is an intense pull toward a constant stream of external tasks, demands, and distractions that “must” be met. The more we engage, the further and further we move away from what it is that WE may actually need. By the time we slow down to catch our breath, it can be hard to know how to even begin to shift our focus inward again.

By taking time to nurture and care for ourselves, we can begin to reconnect with our innermost needs. In doing so, we are able to live more fully, while cultivating more patience and compassion for ourselves and others.

The ways we choose to care for ourselves do not have to be grand gestures. A small act of purposeful care each day can build a bridge to reconnect with our innermost needs.

There are many ways people can care for themselves that go beyond the norm of our daily routine. A good place to start is becoming clear around the activities that bring you a sense of calm, grounding, and joy. The possibilities are endless. Some examples are taking a series of deep breaths, hopping on your mat for some gentle stretches, going for a walk, journaling, tapping into your creativity, and turning on your favorite song to sing or dance your heart out.

Remember, one small movement forward at a time. You’ve got this.

How do you nurture and care for yourself?
